AMERICAN IDOL JUDGES STILL IN CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS

Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul are still in contract negotiations, but that may be about to change, according to the Los Angeles Times.  The newspaper  says Cowell could ink a deal as early as this week, which is good considering the auditions with the judges begin in August.
Cowell already banks $36 million a year, but he’s said to be asking for a much larger paycheck, $45 mil, give or take a buck or two.  He’s under contract until 2010, but is looking to boost his rate for multiple years to come.
Abdul’s negotiations are a bit more public thanks to her new manager, David Sonenberg, who told the paper he had heard nothing from Idol producers.  That changed after he was presented with an offer he refused last week.  Abdul currently makes a paltry (how does she survive?) $4 million annually and is said to be seeking an increase to $12 million.  What a deal for the Fox.  Abdul was reportedly asking for $20 million a year, but has reportedly since backed off that number.
Former Idol Executive Producer, Nigel Lythgoe, says it’s all about negotiations and tells HollywoodOutbreak.com that he’s convinced it’ll get settled as long as the media stays out of the way.
