Could American Idol's Danny Gokey be the next country star?

MTV reports that American Idol's Danny Gokey may be "this close" to announcing a deal with a country music record label. Gokey talked to MTV's reporter about a label that would be attending the July 17 show in Ontario, California. He said that he had found a producer, Mark Bright, that he wanted to work with. Bright has produced albums from Carrie Underwood, Rascal Flatts, Lonestar and Sara Evans, all acts that have a pop country feel to them.
"There's no twang in me," Gokey remarks, "but I love the message that country [has]. ... Like, could you honestly see me talking about, like, booty and shakin' it, being like, 'Hey, girl!' I'm just not that type of artist. Country music kind of houses the message that I like, and I can still talk about the things in my music that still goes on in that genre."
I have got to say that I disagree with Danny, on the fact that he feels he needs to get a twang in his voice. I don't believe that having a "twang" makes you a country singer. There are several artists that are country superstars, but they have no country twang in their voice. Taylor Swift is a prime example, as is Dierks Bentley. So, I would have to say that I would prefer that Danny stay true to himself, and not try to change his voice to try and fit into any specific genre of music.
